United Living Property Services recently sponsored a barista training and mentoring course for young people in Bermondsey, London.

Held at the Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey, the three-day course was run by Peak - Coffee Academy, an educational coffee shop that provides training, mentoring and employment opportunities for young people in South London.

Those attending the training were a group of year ten students currently studying at Deptford Green school to give them skills to apply for part-time jobs at weekends and in the school holidays. The course covered learning about the varieties of coffee beans, how to create the perfect cup of coffee and how to engage with customers.

On the last day, the students were able to serve the coffee they had made to customers, which provided them with the hands-on experience of working in a coffee shop.

In 2020, Peak - Coffee Academy attended a Lewisham Changemakers Pitch Night, an event that allows local social enterprises to highlight their work and appeal for funding and support. Following a successful pitch, United Living Property Services has been working closely with them to secure training workshops for local students and provide support in boosting their long-term enterprise vision.

Jacquie Noon, Social Value Manager, United Living, said: 'At United Living Group, we pride ourselves on leaving a positive legacy in the local communities where we work. Therefore, we were delighted to help Peak - Coffee Academy provide support for young people in Bermondsey.

'As the last 12 months have made clearer than ever, education plays a critical role in the lives of young people and their families. Training and mentoring are of particular importance, and the great work being undertaken by Peak Coffee Academy will no doubt have a widespread positive impact in the local community'.
