On Tuesday, Ford reported a 1.3% drop in its Q1 sales in the United States, despite strong pickup truck sales.The second-largest US automaker, behind GM, said it sold 501,291 vehicles in the first three months of the year, compared with 508,083 units in the same period last year.The group points out that its pickup truck sales nevertheless made their best start to the year in more than 20 years, with a jump of 24.5% to 190,389 units for the Ford F-Series, its best-selling model in the US.By vehicle category, the increase was 15% overall for pick-ups and vans, but this was more than offset by a 31.6% fall in passenger cars and a 15.7% drop in SUVs.Ford shares were down 0.1% in early trading on Tuesday morning in the wake of this publication.
