DUK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Duke Energy Foundation has awarded the Richland Volunteer Fire Department a $12,000 Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions grant to help the department maintain the critical safety services it provides to local businesses and residents in Richland, Texas and surrounding Navarro County.

"Safety is our top priority and volunteer fire departments, like the Richland Volunteer Fire Department, are valuable safety resources for rural communities where we operate," said Chris Fallon, president of Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions. "We're proud to contribute to the Navarro County community and help fund the equipment and services that will enable the local volunteer fire fighters to continue to keep area residents and businesses safe."

Wildfires, flash flooding and community emergencies take a heavy toll on fire and rescue equipment. The grant provided by Duke Energy will go toward equipment upgrades, maintenance, and new services and tools that the Richland Volunteer Fire Department needs to ensure the safety of the community.

"The Richland Volunteer Fire Department is thankful for our partnership with Duke Energy in providing safety gear for our personnel. We are grateful for this support and look forward to a long-lasting relationship with Duke Energy," said Kenneth Guard, fire chief of the Richland Volunteer Fire Department.

Navarro County is home to one of Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions' newest facilities. In June 2021, the company announced the construction of its 250-megawatt Pisgah Ridge Solar project. The site, which will generate enough energy to power approximately 63,000 additional residences in Texas, is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

The Richland Volunteer Fire Department serves the city of Richland and participates in mutual aid with fire departments throughout Navarro County, Texas.
