CINCINNATI - GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) Chairman and CEO H. Lawrence Culp, Jr. today released the following statement on the passing of Frederick W. Smith, FedEx Founder and Executive Chairman:

'I am heartbroken to hear of Fred's passing. Fred was a trailblazer, whose bold ideas and relentless drive built one of the world's most respected companies.

'Fred not only was a beloved customer of GE Aerospace, he was a friend and inspiration to me personally. I have long admired his professionalism and patriotism. He was one of the first people to reach out to me when I joined GE, and I will never forget meeting with him in Memphis and witnessing FedEx's impressive 'midnight sort' at their facility. Over the years, and as recently as last week, I have called on Fred for his sage counsel. He always was actively engaged, offering wisdom and guidance with the same passion that has shaped his legacy.

'On behalf of GE Aerospace, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Fred's family, friends, and the entire FedEx team.'
