Oracle and BorderPlex Digital Assets will use fuel cells made by Bloom Energy for Oracle's Project Jupiter data-center campus in New Mexico.
Bloom will supply the campus with up to 2.45 gigawatts of installed fuel cell capacity in a consolidated microgrid that will provide power to the facility.
Shares of Bloom rose 2.1% to $239.53 in after-hours trading Monday. The stock closed up 1.5% at $234.68, having gained more than one-and-a-half times its value this year.
The fuel cells will replace previously planned gas turbines and diesel generators. The switch will reduce nitric oxide emissions by around 92% and use a negligible amount of water, the companies said Monday.
"Bloom's fuel cell technology will power what is expected to be one of the largest data center microgrids operating in the United States at the time of completion," Bloom Energy Chief Commercial Officer Aman Joshi said.
Oracle said it will continue to bear all energy costs for the project.
