Amphenol recorded a jump in first-quarter revenue and expects sales growth to continue through the second quarter as its end markets drive demand.
The maker of connectors and cables on Wednesday posted a profit of $933.0 million, or 72 cents a share, in the quarter ended March 31, compared with $737.8 million, or 58 cents a share, a year earlier.
Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were $1.06, ahead of the 94 cents anticipated by analysts, according to FactSet.
Revenue rose 58% to $7.62 billion. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast revenue of $7.08 billion.
Sales were driven by organic growth in most of Amphenol's end markets, including particularly high growth in the IT datacom market.
Amphenol anticipates revenue in the second quarter will be $8.1 billion to $8.2 billion, ahead of the $7.70 billion analysts are projecting. It also expects $1.14 to $1.16 in adjusted earnings per share, which would also beat Wall Street estimates of $1.05 a share.
