Virtual platform Roblox reports robust revenue growth and strong user numbers, and raises its expectations for the rest of the year.
Revenue came to $1.04 billion in the first quarter, up 29 percent from a year earlier. Prepayments for services or products delivered later rose 31 percent to $1.21 billion.
Despite this growth, Roblox posted a net loss of $215 million. Adjusted operating income (EBITDA) came in at $58 million.
Roblox averaged 97.8 million daily active users, up 26 percent from the previous year. Users spent a total of 21.7 billion hours on the platform, a growth of 30 percent. The number of unique paying users per month was 20.2 million, good for an average spend of $19.92 per person.
CEO and founder David Baszucki calls the quarter "outstanding" and points to growth in all core areas. 'Our investments in the virtual economy, search functionality and content quality are clearly paying off,' Baszucki said.
Roblox creators together earned a record $281.6 million, and more than 100 developers earned more than $1 million over the past year.
