With EPS Growth And More, WEC Energy Group (NYSE:WEC) Makes An Interesting Case

The excitement of investing in a company that can reverse its fortunes is a big draw for some speculators, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can manage to find investors. Sometimes these stories can cloud the minds of investors, leading them to invest with their emotions rather than on the merit of good company fundamentals. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else investors will move on and the company will wither away.

In contrast to all that, many investors prefer to focus on companies like WEC Energy Group (NYSE:WEC), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

How Fast Is WEC Energy Group Growing?

Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. We can see that in the last three years WEC Energy Group grew its EPS by 7.5% per year. While that sort of growth rate isn't anything to write home about, it does show the business is growing.

Are WEC Energy Group Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Owing to the size of WEC Energy Group, we wouldn't expect insiders to hold a significant proportion of the company. But thanks to their investment in the company, it's pleasing to see that there are still incentives to align their actions with the shareholders. As a matter of fact, their holding is valued at US$43m. That shows significant buy-in, and may indicate conviction in the business strategy. Despite being just 0.2% of the company, the value of that investment is enough to show insiders have plenty riding on the venture.

It's good to see that insiders are invested in the company, but are remuneration levels reasonable? Our quick analysis into CEO remuneration would seem to indicate they are. Our analysis has discovered that the median total compensation for the CEOs of companies like WEC Energy Group, with market caps over US$8.0b, is about US$13m.

The CEO of WEC Energy Group only received US$5.0m in total compensation for the year ending December 2021. That's clearly well below average, so at a glance that arrangement seems generous to shareholders and points to a modest remuneration culture. CEO compensation is hardly the most important aspect of a company to consider, but when it's reasonable, that gives a little more confidence that leadership are looking out for shareholder interests. It can also be a sign of good governance, more generally.

Does WEC Energy Group Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

As previously touched on, WEC Energy Group is a growing business, which is encouraging. The fact that EPS is growing is a genuine positive for WEC Energy Group, but the pleasant picture gets better than that. With company insiders aligning themselves considerably with the company's success and modest CEO compensation, there's no arguments that this is a stock worth looking into.
