‌APPLICABILITY

This policy applies to GATX Operations at Rail North America and Rail Europe

An important goal of GATX operations is to conduct our business in an environmentally responsible manner. As a leading full-service, worldwide railcar lessor, we strive to maintain our railcars to the highest levels of safety and quality. Relatedly, we seek to reduce the environmental impact of our operations at our owned railcar maintenance facilities. In addition to working to reduce the impact of our operations on the environment, we hope to be recognized as a great corporate citizen by the communities in which we operate.

In accordance with our commitment to promote sustainability and environmental awareness within the Company, we strive to:

Maintain our railcars to the highest levels of safety and quality

Understand, meet or exceed the environmental regulatory requirements of the jurisdictions in which we operate

Establish practices that aim to reduce the potential for a non-permitted environmental release from our maintenance facilities and foster a timely and effective response should a release occur

Efficiently and effectively utilize resources, including water, electricity, and natural gas

Monitor our GHG emissions, energy consumption, water usage, and waste generation and annually report on our metrics in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry standards

Evaluate the impact of operational changes on the environment and the community prior to implementation and investment in programs that seek to make our operations more efficient

Reduce waste associated with our operations and take steps to promote treatment or disposal of waste in a responsible manner

Communicate to our employees GATX's expectations to work in an environmentally responsible manner

Leverage our continuous improvement culture and employee ideas to support our achievement of these objectives

This policy is regularly reviewed by GATX's Sustainability Committee. All updates are communicated to relevant individuals and departments when necessary. GATX's Environmental, Health and Safety and Operations departments are responsible for maintaining compliance with the objectives stated in this policy.
