FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Robust first-quarter results and an upgraded full-year guidance from ABB boosted other European capital goods stocks on Wednesday. ABB shares climbed 3.5 percent during morning trading. In the wake of the Swiss group's performance, Siemens shares rose 1.1 percent. Schneider Electric gained 1.6 percent, while Legrand shares advanced 2.2 percent.

ABB booked record order intake of 11.3 billion US dollars in the first quarter, beating average analyst expectations by 16 percent. Simultaneously, the group raised its targets for both growth and profitability.

Initial reactions from market experts were accordingly positive: the Swiss company's higher expectations for the current year come as a surprise given the situation in the Middle East, wrote JPMorgan analyst Phil Buller. Consensus estimates are now likely to rise in the low-to-mid single-digit percentage range. ABB's figures and outlook are also good news for Siemens, Schneider Electric, and Legrand.

Alasdair Leslie of US research firm Bernstein Research particularly praised the upgraded 2026 revenue outlook, driven by very strong order intake in the Electrification division. Demand for data centers remains robust, with order growth reaching triple digits during the quarter. "This result sends a strong signal for the electrical industry and is a positive read-across for other competitors who have yet to report their figures," Leslie emphasized./edh/bek/stk
