Southern Company Boosts Quarterly Dividend by 2.7%

Southern Company is boosting its quarterly dividend by 2.7% to 76 cents a share, from 74 cents.

The new payout, equal to $3.04 a year, represents a 3.2% annual yield based on the energy company's Friday closing price of $94.50.

The dividend is payable June 8 to shareholders of record as of May 18.

"Increasing the dividend 25 years in a row represents a historic milestone for the company and underscores our focus on total shareholder return and our goal of delivering regular, predictable and sustainable value for shareholders," Chief Executive Chris Womack said.
