The recommerce market, the online trade in used products in Europe, is booming. It is growing 20.8 percent in Gross Trade Volume (GMV) to 102.6 billion euros. This is according to the fourth edition of the report TOP 100 Cross-Border Sustainable Marketplaces of Europe by Cross-Border Commerce Europe.
Between 2020 and 20124 growth was 24.6 percent. Marketplaces, representing 72.3 percent of this GMV, are driving this growth.
Leading players such as Vinted, TheRealReal, MPB and Back Market are getting stronger every year. The top 100 cross-border recommerce marketplaces stand out with remarkable revenues of 63 billion euros, reflecting a growth of 19.1 percent.
This growth is expected to continue, with recommerce expected to account for 12.6 percent of total online European GMV by 2025, more than double the market size in 2020 (5.7 percent).
The fashion and beauty sectors in particular are experiencing a profound shift, with the recommerce market expected to represent 6.9 percent of the industry by 2025, up significantly from just 4.29 percent in 2020.
