Capital One Financial filed a suit against unnamed defendants, alleging illegal use of the Capital One and Discover trademarks in scams.

The suit, filed Tuesday in a Virginia district court, says the unnamed defendants used the trademarks without consent in phone, text message, email and website scam campaigns, violating the Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act.

Defendants allegedly misled and deceived consumers by masquerading as Capital One and its predecessor Discover, the McLean, Va., bank claimed.

Capital One asked the court to halt the unauthorized use of the trademarks by disabling the alleged scam campaigns.
