Conflict Minerals

Oerlikon Surface Solutions has a high level of concern regarding the exploitation and the trade of conflict minerals originating in conflict-affected and high-risk areas, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and surrounding countries ("conflict region") that help finance violent conflicts and cause emergency humanitarian situations. Conflict minerals include tantalum, tin, gold and tungsten as well as associated refined metals that may directly or indirectly finance or benefit armed groups in conflict-affected and high-risk areas. Armed conflict in those regions leads to both human rights violations and environmental damage.

In July 2010, new legislation was signed into law, which pertains to the use of conflict minerals (Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform & Consumer Protection Act).

In January 2021, a new law came into full force across the EU - the Conflict Minerals Regulation 2017/821, which imposes supply chain due diligence obligations for Union importers of conflict minerals.

Oerlikon is currently not aware of the use of any conflict minerals in its products sourced from conflict-affected or high-risk areas and will continue to comply with the principles set forth in the Dodd Frank Act, the United Nations Resolutions, and the Regulation (EU) 2017/821. Oerlikon is committed to maintaining a socially and environmentally responsible supply chain and has taken all appropriate actions to avoid illegal and unethical mineral sourcing in its products. In this regard, Oerlikon has notified all its suppliers of its policy on conflict minerals and will continue to request annual written confirmation that the powders and products supplied by its vendors do not contain any conflict minerals sourced from conflict or high-risk regions.

If you have any concerns, please address your contact person at Oerlikon or send an email

to [email protected].
