Aramark Correctional Services - Celebrating a Decade Together: IN2WORK and Ohio DRC Host Gives Back Event

ARMK

On September 25, 2024, Aramark Correctional Services' IN2WORK program and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) proudly celebrated 10 years together by hosting an IN2WORK Gives Back event at the Northeast Reintegration Center (NERC) in Cleveland.

The event brought together ODRC administration, NERC leaders, and teams from Aramark and IN2WORK to pack over 500 shelf-stable meal bags. These meal bags were donated to the Salvation Army of Northeast Ohio and will be distributed to food pantries throughout the Cleveland area to support local communities facing food insecurities.

The guest of honor was Michelle Dimuzio, a former IN2WORK fellow, who is now an Aramark Manager. Michelle's journey is a testament to the positive impact of the IN2WORK program and the opportunities it creates for personal and professional growth.

'I2W allowed me to gain a lot of skills that were going to help me when I got out,' said Dimuzio. 'I was able to save up a large amount of money, and also was able to have a job upon release. It allowed me to have a sense of well-being going home, because before the program, I didn't know where I was going to go. I didn't have any opportunities jobwise, so it gave me financial stability. It gave me confidence, and self-esteem. It gave me many skills that I'm actually using today.'

This impactful event was made possible by the generous donation of more than 5,500 items from Aramark's Union Supply, which supplies commissary items across the nation. Everyone in attendance was impressed with the variety and quality of the products, and many commented on the generous amount that was donated.

'Union Supply is a proud second chance employer and was thrilled to be able to support the IN2WORK program and Ohio DRC on their anniversary,' said Thomas Burns, Aramark Correctional Service's Regional Vice President with Union Supply. 'The Gives Back event not only allowed us to support I2W in a tangible way, but also to support the Cleveland community. We were honored to partner for this effort.'

in2work graduates

IN2WORK has been marking milestones with Give Back events. In March, I2W and the KY DOC assembled and donated approximately 1500 honey mustard wrap sandwiches to Bread of Life food pantry, which will deliver the sandwiches to homeless shelters. In April, I2W and the FL DOC celebrated their 500th graduate by preparing 500 snack bags that were donated to the Gadsden County Department of Elderly Affairs and the Hope Harvest Food Pantry.

'Time and time again, I am moved by our I2W graduates and the effort and dedication they put forward in this program. I am also thankful for our partnership with Ohio DRC, which shares our mission to offer pathways to success post-incarceration and to reduce recidivism,' said Bob Barr, Regional Vice President with Aramark Correctional Services. 'Today was a great day for all, and we look forward to continuing education and community events like these.'
