Maximus announced the expansion of its Preadmission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR) services with a new contract in Colorado, the renewal of a contract in Delaware, and the launch of program operations in Louisiana. As a trusted partner with deep experience and broad capabilities for assessing individuals with complex needs, Maximus now supports 15 states with their PASRR programs. PASRR is a federally mandated screening process that helps ensure individuals with serious mental illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities are appropriately evaluated before admission to Medicaid-certified nursing facilities. The process helps connect individuals to the most suitable setting and services, supporting care in the least restrictive environment.
Maximus delivers PASRR Level I screenings, clinical reviews, and Level II evaluations and monitors PASRR service delivery on an ongoing basis for states across the nation. In partnership with the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, Maximus helps the state identify individuals who have a serious mental illness, intellectual disability, or related condition who are applying for admission to a nursing facility, through Level I screens, then conducts Level II evaluation assessments to determine appropriate placements and identify disability-specific services and supports to meet their needs. The company continues its work by monitoring the delivery of services and supports in nursing facilities and helping the state to facilitate transitions back into the community.
Building on a partnership that included the successful transition from a paper-based to a fully electronic system to improve service delivery, Delaware Health and Social Services again selected Maximus as its PASRR vendor. Since 2021, Maximus has conducted an average of more than 1,000 Level I and II screenings across the state each month, with faster review times and improved placement outcomes.
