Autograph Collection Hotels, part of Marriott International's global portfolio, has made its India debut with the opening of Noormahal Delhi NCR Karnal Autograph Collection, marking a significant milestone in the brand's larger expansion into South Asia and the first ever in the country. With this launch, it becomes Marriott Bonvoy's 19th brand in India, 34th in Asia and contributes to Marriott's growing footprint of 235 hotels across South Asia.
Located along the Grand Trunk Road, the 176-key property with about 300,000+ square feet of space, will continue to position itself well for leisure, staycations, and corporate gatherings while seamlessly blending heritage with contemporary luxury.
Speaking during the officiating ceremony held at the newly revamped hotel, Kiran Andicot, Senior Vice President, Development - Asia Pacific (excluding China), Marriott International underscored that Marriott's growth strategy in India goes beyond scale, focusing instead on strategic alignment and experience-led hospitality. Highlighting evolving consumer behaviour post-pandemic, he noted that modern travellers are increasingly experience-driven, a shift that aligns with Marriott's Autograph Collection positioning.

'Today's traveller is not just looking at a hotel, but at experiences. That's where the Autograph Collection brand comes in.' He emphasised that the brand's India entry has been carefully curated, with Noor Mahal emerging as the right fit due to its distinct identity and heritage character.
'It's not so much about the product as it is about the partner. Noor Mahal represents a perfect match with its strong sense of identity and place.'
Further pointing to Karnal's growing strategic relevance and the rise of drive-to destinations, Andicot said such locations are gaining traction among urban travellers. He also highlighted the strength of Marriott's ecosystem, anchored by its loyalty platform. 'With over 271 million members, Marriott Bonvoy allows us to offer diverse experiences through partnerships and remain relevant across different phases of our guests' lives.'
Asserting on a people-first philosophy, he stressed that hospitality is ultimately driven by human capital. 'You can have the best facilities, but without the right people, you fall short of delivering a great guest experience.'
For Noor Mahal, the partnership marks a transformational leap, from a regional landmark to a globally recognised hospitality destination. Colonel Manbeer Choudhary, Chairman & Managing Director, Noor Mahal Group described the collaboration as a 'confluence of heritage and global excellence,' positioning the property within Marriott's curated Autograph Collection.

While Delhi NCR belt will be in sharp focus for demand generation, the partnership will elevate Noor Mahal from a domestic landmark to an international destination, backed by Marriott's global reach, said Choudhary. He also pointed to the access to Marriott Bonvoy's vast member base, opening up significant international visibility.
Importantly, Choudhary also stressed that the collaboration will retain the property's heritage essence while integrating global standards.
'Noormahal is a heartfelt tribute to India's past era, brought to life with a deep sense of pride, detail, and authenticity. Every element of this incredible Indian palace hotel reflects this commitment to preserving heritage while creating a space that feels relevant and welcoming for modern guests. Every corner of this palace will continue to tell a story of art and grandeur, now enhanced by global hospitality excellence.'
The property is also expected to play a role in regional tourism development, particularly with the Haryana government's focus to develop Kurukshetra, said Mahesh Singh Jasrotia, General Manager, Noormahal, Delhi NCR Karnal, Autograph Collection. The hotel aims to anchor a broader travel circuit connecting Delhi NCR, Kurukshetra (religious tourism), other places like Chandigarh, Ambala, Ludhiana and more.
'At Noormahal, Delhi NCR Karnal, Autograph Collection, our vision is to forge a deep and authentic connection with the region's rich cultural heritage and surroundings. Every detail-from our grand venues to our meticulously crafted culinary offerings is designed to create unforgettable moments and redefine the guest experience,' he added.
In terms of proximity, Chandigarh International Airport and the Indira Gandhi New Delhi International Airport are 2 hours away and the Karnal Railway Station is 15 minutes' drive from the hotel. The property also serves as a resting spot and gateway to popular destinations including Amritsar and Patiala in Punjab, Shimla and Manali in Himachal Pradesh, and Dehradun and Mussoorie in Uttarakhand.
260 events forecasted annually; 20% of business expected from MICE
The officials further highlighted that the hotel's proximity to Delhi NCR, within driving distance, offers a strategic advantage, especially as drive-to leisure and staycations gain traction. The property is being positioned as a multi-segment destination, with strong emphasis on destination weddings, social celebrations, staycations and experiential travel
While weddings remain a key driver, with a target of 260 events annually, the hotel is expecting around 20% of business from MICE and offsite segments, leveraging its scale and accessibility.
For visibility, the critical lever creating demand will be Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott's global loyalty platform. With access to a vast global base of almost 271 million members, the hotel is expected to gain immediate global visibility, enabling cross-market demand generation, loyalty-driven bookings and tiered experiences across traveller segments. Andicot shared that beyond influencer marketing, the combination of brand distribution, loyalty integration, and experiential positioning will drive sustained visibility in both domestic and international markets.
Performance expectations & market realities
From a performance standpoint, the hotel is aligning with benchmarks typical of leisure-driven, drive-to destinations.
The ARR and occupancy benchmarks are driven by the market, said Andicot answering to a question posed by T3. The endeavour he said is to maximise RevPAR (revenue per available room). For a hotel with 176 keys, an ADR of 25,000 at an occupancy of about 55% is typical for a leisure-oriented hotel at a driving distance, unlike a city hotel. He indicated that Marriott's ecosystem and brand pull are expected to further enhance these benchmarks over time.
When asked if any similar conversions are being planned to encourage more similar brand entries to India, Andicot said that Autograph Collection Hotels will follow a highly selective growth approach in India. The brand already prioritises strong sense of place, unique storytelling and distinct identity. Future expansions he said will be limited and curated, ensuring each property remains 'exactly like nothing else,' in line with the brand's global philosophy and handpicked for their artistry and distinct approach to design and hospitality.
Noor Mahal: A Living Royal Canvas
Originally conceived in 2009, Noor Mahal feels less a hotel and more a curated ode to the royal past, drawing inspiration from the architectural grandeur of the maharaja era. Envisioned by Colonel Choudhary and his wife, Binny Choudhary, descendants of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the property is positioned as a confluence of heritage preservation and contemporary luxury. Crafted thoughtfully and not just constructed, what really sets the hotel apart is its artisanal depth. Hand-painted frescos, decorative walls, gold-leaf motifs, intricate mirror work, domed ceilings with beautiful Shamiyana-like settings, bespoke artefacts and richly detailed installations, transforming every corridor, every corner into a visual narrative.
Apart from the signature accommodations including Raja Niwas and Khwabgah, regal penthouses with private terraces, the hotel houses four distinct dining venues.
At the heart of this experience is Colonel Saab, the hotel's signature dining space that is inspired by the journeys and memories of Choudhary, who was an Indian Army officer and his family. Complementing this is Frontier Mail, another dining venue within the property that channels the romance of pre-independence railway travel. Conceptualised as a tribute to the historic train that once connected Peshawar to Bombay, the restaurant recreates the old-world charm of luxury rail journeys, complete with vintage-inspired interiors, carriage-style seating.
For events, the property's iconic open lawns, Rani ka Bagh and Raja ka Bagh, alongside the venues including Sheesh Mahal and Darbar Hall, cater well to the grand and intimate celebrations. Additionally, the recreational offerings including spa, outdoor pool, gymnasium, and experiential activities including tennis, pickleball, ziplining, and rock climbing, position the hotel as a holistic leisure destination.
