Blackstone-backed AirTrunk plans to invest around $3 billion developing two data center campuses in Malaysia, its latest expansion in the Asia-Pacific.

The campuses, located in the state of Johor, will have a combined capacity of more than 280 megawatts of IT load, the data-center platform said Thursday. That will raise the IT load capacity of AirTrunk's Malaysia platform to over 700 megawatts.

AirTrunk's expansion follows its previous Malaysian investment in early 2025, which received strong commitments from existing global cloud and artificial intelligence customers, it said. Thursday's announcement will bring AirTrunk's total committed investment in Malaysia to around $6.8 billion.

The move is expected to strengthen Malaysia's position as a competitive and high-capacity regional digital hub, said Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a Facebook post.

"Malaysia has set a clear ambition to lead in AI, and we're investing in that vision for the long term, both within Johor and across the country in time," said AirTrunk Chief Executive Robin Khuda.

AirTrunk last week announced its entry into India, where it plans to invest over $5 billion in the near term.

AirTrunk, which was acquired by investment firm Blackstone for about $16 billion in 2024, specializes in so-called hyperscale data centers and has operations in markets such as Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong.
