Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who was also a footballer with Penafiel in the Portuguese second division, died in a car crash in northwestern Spain early on Thursday.

Jota's former Liverpool teammates Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho as well as Manchester United's Diogo Dalot, with whom he won the Nations League for Portugal mere weeks ago, were among some of the high-profile names to offer their condolences at the event.

Liverpool CEO Michael Edwards along with other club representatives also joined mourners in Jota's hometown.

Jota died along with his younger brother Andre Silva after their Lamborghini veered off a road in northwest Spain, crashing and bursting into flames. Police suspected a tire bursting had caused the accident.
