Five AEP operating companies have been recognized by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) for their mutual assistance efforts in 2021. The award recognizes EEI member companies who aid other companies after a storm or significant outage event. Each organization committed personnel and equipment to assist Entergy with restoration efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.

In August 2021, Ida made landfall in Louisiana as a major category 4 storm. The storm left over 1 million people without power and caused an estimated $2.6 billion in damage.

Workers faced the traditional challenges of restoration efforts and also some less common hazards. Crews had to be aware of snakes, alligators and unique environmental conditions created by Ida. More than 10,000 support personnel from 41 states came together to overcome these difficulties and restore power to the region.

"We've been challenged with severe weather in Indiana and Michigan the last several years and understand how damaging major storms are to communities," said Steve Baker, president and COO of Indiana Michigan Power. "Partnership and mutual aid efforts truly are life saving measures in the aftermath of a storm. We've received support from peers when needed, and we're proud to be able to support other utilities and communities during a time of need."

The following operating companies were recognized by EEI for their support:

"We're proud to lend our expertise and resources to support our peer utilities. We work in an industry that understands how important the service we provide is to our customers and communities," said Lisa Barton, executive vice president and chief operating officer of AEP. "The last few years have unquestionably been a challenge for us, battling the wrath of Mother Nature while adapting to an ever-changing pandemic. I couldn't be prouder of the AEP team in receiving this well-deserved recognition."
