CyrusOne : Aurora I and II win GBI's Three Green Globes Building Designation

CONE

The Green Building Initiative (GBI) has given CyrusOne its coveted 2021 Three Green Globes Building Designation for its Aurora I and II data centers in suburban Chicago.

The Three Globes designation means the facilities: "Demonstrate leadership in applying the best practices regarding energy, water and environmental efficiency."

GBI is a nonprofit organization and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Developer whose mission is to: "Improve the built environment and reduce climate impacts through exceptional education, tools, standards, and assessments that deliver sustainable, healthy, and resilient buildings."

It lauded Aurora I and Aurora II for their robust monitoring of mechanical and electrical systems, including monitoring of tenant power consumption integrated into the documented building operating procedures; comprehensive facility energy management and sustainability policy; comprehensive purchasing and waste policy incorporating sustainability goals; comprehensive green cleaning policy; and comprehensive refrigerant management plan that is documented and implemented.

"These awards for our Aurora data center campus highlight our continued commitment to fulfilling our sustainability mission in applying the best energy, water and environmental practices to our industry. We appreciate the recognition of Three Green GlobesĀ® from GBI which demonstrates the results of our team's hard work in resource efficiency, reduced environmental impacts and improved occupant wellness, and we look forward to applying these principles to other areas of our portfolio."

Under the program, GBI taps third-party assessors to score a facility based on energy, water, resources, emission and other impacts, indoor environment and environmental management system. Assessors visited the 428,000-square-foot Aurora I and II facilities on May 26, 2021. Notably, Aurora I and II each scored a perfect 100% on their environmental management systems.

Here's how each scored in the categories:

Aurora I

Aurora I got 662 out of 949 available points for a score of 70%, which is equivalent to Three Green Globes.

Aurora II

Aurora II got 660 out of 949 available points for a score of 70%, which is equivalent to Three Green Globes.

Over the past two years, CyrusOne's Aurora campus has evolved into the preeminent financial services campus in the region and is home to two financial exchanges. It has developed an ecosystem of financial service companies, asset managers, and it is renowned as the standard for operational expertise, supporting the mission critical infrastructure of highly regulated firms, such as the Small Exchange.

In October 2020, we published our 2020 Sustainability Report, highlighting progress toward our sustainability goals and emphasis on building data centers designed for a sustainable future. The report details efforts and progress toward our ultimate goal of net-zero carbon operations by 2040 and other sustainability strategies, practices and goals. We are proud Aurora I and Aurora II have gained the Three Green Globes Building Designation and will continue to work toward improving their scores as part of our sustainability mission.
