Consumer companies fell amid concerns about a prolonged energy shock.

Airlines and travel firms lost ground due to worries about rising fuel prices. JetBlue Airways said it was cutting capacity to try to make up for rising fuel costs. Hilton Worldwide shares fell even as the hotelier said demand had been resilient in the first quarter.

Soda giant Coca-Cola reported higher first-quarter profit, boosted by growth in sales of concentrates, which it sells to bottling partners. Shares of Coke rallied to all-time highs.
