CUPERTINO, CA - SEPTEMBER 09: A member of the media inspects the new iPhone 6 during an Apple special event at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts on September 9, 2014 in Cupertino, California. Apple unveiled the Apple Watch wearable tech and two new iPhones, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

According to PC Mag's latest report, the feature was leaked by two former Apple employees, saying that Apple is currently developing an optical sensor that would be placed inside the iPhone. This sensor will authenticate the users by fingerprint.

The former employees claimed that Apple's new technology is better than Qualcomm's ultrasonic sensor They also said that the iPhone users would have an option to use their Touch ID or Face ID.

iPhone 13's new security option

MacRumors reported the iPhone 13's new security feature will use light. The normal optical in-display fingerprint sensors that are currently used in Android devices will show a fingerprint icon.

They'll need to place their finger at the top of the screen to provide light. After that, the camera will create an image of the user's fingertip. Although this seems to be a very secure option, security experts said that it can easily be fooled since the innovation uses 2D images.

On the other hand, ultrasonic fingerprint sensors are considered the latest tech of their kind. Security researchers said that it is a more secure version and can't easily be fooled by hackers and cybercriminals.

Why? Because the tech uses small sound waves to make a 3D map of the user's fingerprint. They also explained that this feature works best when the user's fingers are wet. But, many tech giant manufacturers are not integrating this tech since it is quite expensive.

What Apple will exactly use?

Unlike Android smartphones, iPhones and iPads are using Touch ID home buttons that are capacitive. This kind of sensor uses a series of tiny capacitors to create a fingerprint data map. The produced image is hard to trick since it is not using a straight fingerprint image.

Because of this, rumors claimed that Apple would likely use an optical-capacitive hybrid to develop its in-display fingerprint sensor. This innovation will be a combination of the fast scanning benefits of the optical sensor and the security of a capacitive sensor.
