GXO Logistics has hired veteran DHL executive Patrick Kelleher to succeed Malcolm Wilson as chief executive of the contract logistics provider, effective Aug. 19.

GXO on Friday said Kelleher most recently served as DHL Supply Chain's CEO for North America. He joined Deutsche Post's DHL unit in 1992.

Kelleher will receive an annual base salary of $700,000, a $250,000 sign-on bonus and a target annual bonus of 160% of his base pay, GXO said.

Analysts at TD Cowen said the hiring of Kelleher, coupled with Thursday's U.K. regulatory approval of GXO's acquisition of Wincanton with limited remedies, removes both major sources of overhang on the company's stock.

GXO late last year said Wilson, who has been at the helm of the Greenwich, Conn., company since August 2021, was planning to retire in 2025.

TD Cowen said it views GXO's appointment of a U.S.-focused CEO as a positive for positioning in growth markets and valuation, and for GXO's industrial-penetration ambitions, given DHL's track record in industrial-contract logistics. The analysts maintained their buy rating and $62 price target on shares of GXO, which were recently up 5.1% to $44.98 in premarket trading.
