International Business Machines and Saudi Aramco said they plan to collaborate on artificial intelligence and other technological development in the industrial sector.

The two companies said Tuesday that the collaboration would focus on AI, hybrid cloud, and advanced technologies in industrial and energy systems. The companies haven't yet reached definitive agreements around their partnership, they said.

"Combining Innovation and advanced technology represents the next frontier in enterprise transformation," Saad Toma, IBM Middle East and Africa general manager, said. "By collaborating with Aramco, we are exploring how emerging technologies are addressing some of the world's most complex industrial challenges, while reinforcing our shared commitment to continuous investment in innovation."

The announcement was made at IBM's THINK Boston event. The companies said they have worked together since 1947.
