Rekor Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: REKR) ("Rekor" or the "Company"), a global AI technology company with a mission to provide insights that build safer, smarter, and more efficient cities around the world through intelligent infrastructure, today announced that its Waycare subsidiary was honored with a Nevada Traffic Safety Project of the Year Award for its part in Nevada's "Road to Zero" program. The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) were joint recipients of the award. The accolade, which was announced October 18 at the 2021 Nevada Traffic Safety Summit in Las Vegas, recognizes individuals and organizations that have made an outstanding effort to eliminate serious injury and fatal crashes on Nevada roadways.

The award, sponsored by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS), was given to the three organizations for their participation in the 'Road to Zero' program. The program was funded by the National Safety Council "Road to Zero" grant with the goal of combining the use of artificial intelligence (AI), proactive police presence, and public messaging to shift the typical strategies applied towards traffic safety on US-95 and I-15 in Nevada.

Waycare's technology played an instrumental role in helping define areas at risk for traffic operations and law enforcement to focus efforts on reducing crashes. Along the corridors involved in the project, the Las Vegas interstates covered by the project saw a 43% reduction in speeding drivers along with an 18% reduction in crashes, surpassing the original goal three times over as well as providing economic savings to the agency/region.

"Nevada has laid out a blueprint for how agencies can collaborate to achieve meaningful safety impacts on our road," said Noam Maital, cofounder of Rekor's subsidiary, Waycare. "We are proud that our technology and platform have enabled positive results for the state of Nevada."

The Waycare platform aggregates and synthesizes anonymized data from a number of public and commercial sources into a comprehensive traffic model fueled by artificial intelligence. This model provides predictive operational insights about roadways that government agencies can use for a variety of public safety, transportation, and infrastructure applications.

"This award is a testament to the teamwork involved, and we are proud that the results of our collaboration are recognized by this esteemed committee," said M.J. Maynard, RTC chief executive officer. "The use of AI-based insights was critical to identifying potential target areas for the project and has allowed us to plan for preventative actions in the future for the safety of motorists on Southern Nevada's busiest freeways."

A full report of the project's findings and results can be found in Waycare's white paper: Southern Nevada Road to Zero Program: A Comprehensive Report on the Impact and Economic Savings of Predictive Analytics and Preventive Activities on Driver Speed and Vehicle Crashes in Las Vegas.
