J.M. Smucker will remove certified food, drug and cosmetic colors from its consumer food products by the end of 2027.

The maker of Folger's coffee, Jif peanut butter and Smucker's jams said Thursday the removal will impact its sugar-free fruit spreads, ice cream toppings and some products from its Hostess brand.

J.M. Smucker is working with distribution partners to no longer sell products with FD&C colors to K-12 schools by the 2026-2027 school year. The company said a majority of its products are already free of FD&C colors.

"As a food manufacturer, our top priority is to provide safe, quality, affordable, and convenient products that meet the needs of our consumers, and this decision supports that commitment," Chief Operating Officer John Brase said.

The move follows the Trump administration's push to remove artificial dyes from the U.S. food supply. The Health and Human Services Department and the Food and Drug Administration said in April they would work with the food industry to remove six synthetic dyes by the end of this year.

Conarga Brands on Wednesday said it will remove certain color additives from its U.S. frozen product portfolio by the end of 2025, while Nestlé USA plans to eliminate FD&C colors in its U.S. food and beverage portfolio by mid-2026. Kraft Heinz earlier this month said it plans to remove the dyes from its U.S. products before the end of 2027.

J.M. Smucker previously removed high-fructose corn syrup from its Uncrustables sandwiches and introduced fruit spreads with ingredients from all natural sources and reduced sugar options.
