Weatherford International has been awarded a contract by Ventura Offshore Holding to provide managed pressure drilling (MPD) technology and services for offshore operations in Brazil's Búzios Field, the oilfield services company said in a statement.
Weatherford is to supply its G3 Integrated Riser Joint MPD system for the SSV Victoria drilling rig, along with rig preparation, system integration and a long-term aftermarket maintenance package.
Búzios, operated by state-owned oil company Petrobras in the Santos Basin pre-salt cluster, is one of the world's largest deepwater oil fields and a centrepiece of Brazil's offshore production growth strategy.
Weatherford described the contract as new work, saying the single OEM-led scope was designed to support predictable costs and system reliability over the life of the agreement.
Engineering and configuration support will be provided through Weatherford's Managed Pressure Wells Centre of Excellence in Houston.
Managed pressure drilling is used in deepwater wells with tight pressure windows to improve safety and reduce non-productive time.
