Apple is considering price increases for iPhones coming out this fall, but does not want to tie them to U.S. import tariffs on products from China, where most of the devices are assembled. The Wall Street Journal reported this on Monday(via Reuters).
Apple has become embroiled in the escalating trade conflict between the U.S. and China, which has been exacerbated in recent months by new levies led by President Donald Trump.
A price increase could help Apple cope with higher costs caused by the tariffs. These have strained supply chains worldwide and led Apple to move more and more production to India.
Earlier this month, Apple stated that the tariffs were expected to add some $900 million in additional costs in the second quarter (April-June). The company indicated that most of the iPhones sold in the U.S. during that period would come from India.
